Indi Friday

I was once again trying to do Yoga the other morning and this time there were two dogs trying to do poses with me. Tucker stayed with us for a few days while his parents were out of town. It was our turn to return the favor since Indi has gone over at Tucker’s while we were out of town a couple of times.

It is all about group yoga and sharing the mat!

Tucker makes sure that my hand is firmly on the floor…it certainly was not my most productive yoga session but it definitely was a lot of fun thanks to these two fun and silly doggies!

Indi waiting for Tucker to emerge from underneath his blanket so that she can give him kisses and try to make out with him. He has no interest AT ALL. If he could speak he would probably say: “yak! I don’t want to make out with you! Leave me alone!”

And when he does emerge, he comes out as SUPER TUCKER!!! we I have way too much fun with the dogs!

Indi Friday

Meet Charlie Wilson aka Mr. Piggy. Let me just say that he had me at hello…he is ABSOLUTELY adorable and the biggest ham you will ever come across. Anyone who talks shit about pit bulls should meet this dog; he LOVES being around people and getting affection.  Here he is playing peek-a-boo.

So Charlie belongs to our friend “the Ociffer.” I first noticed them walking around our neighborhood around February/March.  Indi would bark when the two went by and one day I started talking to them. I have to honest, the way they walked was what really amused me. The Ociffer was under the impression that he was taking Charlie on walks. Well truth be told, it was the other way around! Charlie dragged the Ociffer. Quite the pair these two were.  By the time they were done walking they were both exhausted.

The dogs didn’t particularly care for each other at first, there was much growling, barking, and a little charging on Charlie’s part. So we left it alone and kept them apart. Then one day we took them to the doggy park and they were fine. The Ociffer and his awesome girlfriend “Miss Witty” went on vacation last week.  Since the Ociffer lives across the alley from us we offered to take care of Charlie. When he brought him over to our place there were some issues so we had to channel in some Cesar Millan stuff as seen in the images below:

We had a slow start, then once the Ociffer was out of sight Charlie didn’t act like a brat. I picked him up in the morning and dropped him off at night.  The second day the tug toy started it all. They played and played an played.

Then on the third day there was chasing each other around the yard and all the silliness that you see on the video below.  SO CUTE. But let me tell ya, while I was glad that Indi had a companion during the day, it was quite the challenge to manage two dogs, because it was always double the trouble. Mr. Piggy officially killed 2 sunflower plants in the front and part of my Cosmo which had just stared flowering. Oh well, you can’t stay mad at him for too long because he is just such a ham and looks at you and makes your heart melt.

Indi and Charlie Wilson playing…this went on and on and on once they actually started paying attention to each other…so cute!

Now you ask, “why do you call him Mr. Piggy?” Well two reasons, he snorts all the time, and the more excited he gets the louder it gets. It is absolutely hysterical. He even sounds like he is snorting when he snores.  And then there is the drooling. This dog drools like there is no tomorrow and you better watch out when he does his doggy shakes because you will inevitably be sprayed with some doggy drool. Last but not least, he is a little overweight.  Charlie will follow you everywhere. You just have to look at him and he starts wagging his tail and looks at you with such excitement as if saying “love me, love me, pay attention to me,” and will just come and collapse right on your feet.

It was fun having him around and it was so cool to see Indi and Charlie play together and finally become friends.  He is such a good dog. At first we were worried about him and the dogs next door who bark a lot. The first day there was a lot of barking from the other side of the wall. We immediately discouraged Charlie from paying attention to them or go near the wall. And that was it, he ignored them just like Indi does from then on. So all went well. The dogs next door would bark and bark when Charlie and Indi would chase each other and play. Neither one of them paid any attention to the obnoxious dogs.  Charlie was also really good in the house, he just hung out with us and pretty much followed us everywhere we went. So cute!

Just in case you are wondering, he is the real things, a blue nose pit bull.   Yap, the ones that people are usually terrified of because of the way they are treated by bad owners and the media’s blowing out of proportion of their attacks. If you ask me, Charlie is a very good ambassador of his breed, when raised in loving homes.  Mr. Ociffer picked him up from the Downey animal shelter in February and Charlie couldn’t be any more loved than he is. Charlie is SO IN LOVE with the Ociffer too–he is just the center of his universe. These two are perfect for each other. There is one little issue though…unfortunately, Miss Witty can’t stand his piggy and doggy ADD ways. But personally I find it all to be part of his charming personality.

Indi Friday

Last Friday was truly an Indi Friday! That’s because we went to the beach for a couple of hours. Us humans took our lunch with us while the spoiled dog had a blast with her Chuckit Frisbee and ball.

The amazing thing about going to this beach is the fact that the first couple of times that we took Indi there she was scared of the water and the sound of the waves. The first time she actually run away from us and sprinted back up the cliff almost giving the both of us a heart attack. When this happened we had only had Indi for maybe three weeks. Fortunately, by the time J ran up and went back the same way we had come down, Indi came to him when he called for her. phew!

A few months later we tried our luck again and went to a different part of the beach and she still was scared and not into getting her paws wet. So this time around we brought along her favorite toy and much to our amazement Indi was running in the surf after her frisbee, getting wet all over, and running all over the place. It was AWESOME. We were seriously bewildered by the sudden fearlessness of little miss Indi!

PS. This post is dedicated to Josh. We went where snobby people don’t want us to go and had a great time!!! I have no doubts we will do it more often during hot days! Are we talking about the same place?

Indi Friday

Every so often we walk to Averill Park from our house. The ever so courageous Indi had a little moment when the ducks got a little too close…she took refuge behind her daddy. Yap, this is the type of dog that, presumably, is dangerous and bites!!!! OH YEAH!

Indi Friday

I took the picture above when we came home from the vet last Friday while she still had her identification collar on. So the update is that Indi has some swelling in one of her knees and she also has the very beginnings stages of hip dysplasia. We are hoping and praying that she will not get worst as time goes by. But for now she doesn’t need surgery which we are very thankful for.

Bonus picture: oh how comfy it is to rest my head on mama’s arm and fall asleep!

Indi Friday

march-08-293-2-copy.jpg

Today is Indi Friday, and ironically, poor little Indi was dropped off this morning at her vet’s office and she will be there for the majority of the day. I am bummed, very bummed right now. About a month ago she started limping and we noticed that she was having trouble with her back legs. We took her to her regular vet and she was not exactly of much help, she just gave her some anti-inflammatory pills. Sounds just like going to a regular human doctor, they just send you off with some pills and don’t really take the time to diagnose you properly. Anyway, a couple of days ago we took her to a new vet. He spent a good amount of time explaining to us what might be going on with her, and that she may have a doggy version of torn ACL or it could be a hip issue. In order to better diagnose her, he suggested sedating her and performing a thorough bone and muscle exam and also take x-rays.

Poor little thing she had to go in with an empty stomach and the last meal that she had was at 6pm last night. Once she comes off the anesthesia we can go pick her up. Poor thing is probably hungry and caged up right now and God knows when she can actually eat because if we feed her too soon she might throw up.

We are both very bummed right now. Of course the first thought that went through my mind was “oh God, we broke the dog.” We have no idea how this could have happened since she is just a puppy and usually these type of injuries occur to older dogs. Could it have been the run along bike rides? I was the one that fell off my bike, so really I should have been the one hurt in this case! Could it have been the uneven lawn where she plays fetch and goes after the ball as fast as a bullet? Could it be from when she freaks out about the skaters and she stands on her back legs over the wall intensely watching them and running back and forth as they skate in front of the house?

So here I am having a hard time concentrating on anything and impatiently waiting for a phone call so I can go pick her up. Please keep her in your prayers and send some good karma her way.

Anyway, here are some pictures taken during one of our fun training sessions. Indi has now moved on to balancing 4 treats! 🙂
