Indi Friday

may-2009-017-2-copy1You may wonder what happened to Indi Friday in the past month…we have been away…far away from San Pedro, Los Angeles, and United States.  J and I went on an awesome month long adventure to Europe.  While we were exploring Europe Miss Indi spent her days and nights in fine company: with her boyfriend Charlie.

may-2009-060-2These two have grown even closer during the past month, I can’t tell you all how many times I have caught them sharing the same space somewhat cuddled together. This is something that never happened before.

The day after we got back Charlie came over because Mr. Oficer and Miss Witty left town for a few days.  As you can see we do our exchanges rather fast around here!!!

So this Friday May 1st was Indi’s birthday and she turned two.  My little baby is two, which means she is now a teenager. So help us God!  This is what she looked like two years ago:

baby-indiOh how I wished I had met her when she was that little. Well here she is now on her second birthday, all grown up and big!!

may-2009-053-mediumI must say I was impressed that the store that I bought her birthday treat from last year called to wish her a happy birthday. We went back there to buy the three treats in this picture. Aren’t they cute?

may-2009-043-small

I first picked the pink bone for Indi and the dog in the tuxedo for Charlie.  I then thought I need something to put a candle in and I got the pink muffin which they shared the following day.

may-2009-047-mediumJust in case you were wondering she was easy to deal with during the picture taking process. By now she is used to her crazy mama who takes a trillion pictures of her. Yes, she is a poser! The other one, the one with doggie ADD, on the other hand was a handful and I must say I was actually proud of him for sitting there long enough and not diving head first for the treats.

may-2009-059-mediumAnd in this picture, don’t you think for one second that Mr. Piggy didn’t try to walk towards Indi and try to snag the treat from her nose. Too bad I am smarter than he is and he knows better than pull a fast one on me.  With all his mischievous shenanigans he is such a lovable ham.  All you hear when you walk by him or even look at him is the bang bang of his tail on the hardwood floor. Yeah, ham is the right word with beautiful eyes that look at you all lovingly and begging you to pet him.

A little punk on the right and a little punk of the left. These two are too funny together! Look at the big smiles!!! I heard a little barking out front and went outside to see Charlie and Mr. Ocifer waiting for one of us to come out to see what the commotion is all about! So we hung out for a little bit and let the dogs play around.

Is it a surprise to anyone who got to the ball first? YAP!

Indi Friday

february-2009-036-medium

It is no secret to anyone that knows us that we LOVE Indi very much.  From the very beginning she has been a wonderful dog. We have completely lucked out with her because she has never destroyed anything inside the house.  The garden on the other hand has been a whole other story.  Admittedly, she has done nothing major: a couple of plants were pulled out,  a vase was broken while being taking in her mouth from one side of the yard to the other, a couple of small and shallow holes, a couple of jalapeños were stolen and enjoyed, and perhaps other things that I have not become aware of.

So all of the above mentioned stuff are totally minor.  The BIGGEST issue has been out poor front yard.  It used to be nice and grassy, until….the painters that painted our house broke the sprinklers, then the drought came along, and to top it all off the skateboarders chasing is what really killed it.  You ask how we know it is the skateboarders chasing? Um look at the picture above the grass is gone where she runs after them.

Anyway, yesterday J bought some grass seeds and fertilizer. The grass area is currently off limits.  As you can see above she is sitting right at the edge perhaps feeling a bit remorseful about destroying the grass, NOT!

You ask how we keep her off the grass until we fix this issue? A LONG leash attached to one the poles in the back of the house, as seen in the picture below.  Little Punk!

Before I tell you why I will never watch a dog movie again let me give a little background which will humor you by the end of this post. About a week or so ago Donna, SMARTLY, blogged about why she is boycotting the new dog movie. The dog dies at the end of the movie. She talked about another movie that she had seen where the ending was the same which made her cry.  I have not seen the new movie nor was I planning on going to see it, because of the simple knowledge that the dog DIES at the end. So now onto my story:

For the past couple of weeks my friend has kept one of my netflex movies hostage.  In exchange she gave me some movies to watch from her extensive DVD collection. Knowing that I am a dog person she immediately asked me if I had ever seen My Dog Skip.  She was rather horrified that I hadn’t and she sent me home with it saying that I had to see it because it is really cute and as a bonus her husband was a crew member when the movie was shot.  OK! One thing that she conveniently neglected to say was that the G@ddamn movie ends with the dog dying.

I have a reputation for being sensitive and crying during movies that are sad. The end of this movie left me so sad and erased all the funny scenes where I laughed out loud by myself while watching it.  J was home and was having one of his introvert moments hiding in the bedroom and playing on his portable nintendo or whatever it is called.  Unfortunately for him, he joined me during the baseball scene where the stupid kid hits the dog. My eyes welled up and it was a down hill from there. Somewhere between this scene and the end J scooped up Indi onto his lap, a very rare treat because she is not allowed on the couch. So we sat there while he snuggled with her and scratched the back of her ears while I held on to her paw. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I held on to my dog’s paw while watching the movie. You should try it, it is very comforting.

Indi must have been wondering what the hell was going on with me because she was giving me these curious looks as tears were caming down my face.  Indi is not a lap dog at all but this time she just stayed put in J’s lap.  By the time the movie ended we were both crying. So here we are two grown adults crying and I am still holding Indi’s paw.  We both kinda laughed at each other and he says “we are going to be such wrecks in 15 years” followed by something along the lines of “it is going to be hard, you lost it at the vet’s office last year and it was only her hip.” You don’t say, you can read about it all here and here! It is inevitable to think about your own dog’s life and even dare to think about life without her.  Dogs carve out this huge space in your heart and your life is never the same. Frankly, these days I spend more time with her than anyone else. So no, I can’t imagine my life without her.

So all this traumatic experience reminded me of Donna’s post. I went back to the post to leave a comment and say not to ever see this movie. Low and behold it was the same movie…I had forgotten the title, obviously.

DOG MOVIES SUCK!

On a side note though, I would like to add that the dog was well trained and I was impressed with all that he did. He has nothing on Indi though, she knows how to hold a noise maker AND pose for pictures!!!!
